Geology Club

The Geology Club at LSU is very interested in helping other students understand and appreciate the subject of geology. In order to do this, we offer tutoring to anyone who is enrolled in introductory geology classes and labs (1001, 1003, 1601, and 1602). However, we do not only focus on LSU students; we are also reaching out to local schools. At local middle and high schools, we are spreading our appreciation of geology one presentation at a time. With the help of club volunteers, we have begun our school visits and plan to conduct many more starting April of 2008. We hope to visit many more schools in the future, so any suggestions or recommendations are welcome. Field trips are also an integral part of our club. Since our establishment in 2005, we have visited Enchanted Rock, TX; Cloudland Canyon, GA; and Providence Canyon, GA. Each of these locations explored unique geology not available in outcrop from in the state of Louisiana. The Llano uplift at Enchanted Rock presented the members of the club a view of a granite batholith that has undergone significant weathering. At Providence Canyon, multi colored sand and clay told the story of ocean present during the Cretaceous period. As our club continues to grow we hope to visit even greater geologic outcrops.
