Chevron Infosession

The demand for geoscience students has become evident over the last couple of years, and business is booming.  According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, the number of geoscience jobs will grow by 22% from 2006 to 2016.  This is a much faster growth rate than the projected increase of 10% for all occupations.  Due to this demand, starting salaries for geoscientists are on the rise.  Data from AGI shows in 2005 the average salary for a geoscientist in an industry, academic, or government position was $74,000, which is a 9.7% increase over the 2004 data.

This demand for geoscientists can be seen right here on the LSU campus.  Various companies visit the LSU campus to interview students for both internship and full-time job positions On September 22, 2008, the Fall Recruiting Program kicked off with an Infosession from Chevron.  A total of eighteen companies will participate in this year’s program (click here to view event schedule).
