GEOL2081

After a semester of studying minerals, the GEOL 2081 class set out on a road trip to tour the Cullen Hall of Gems and Minerals at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. These undergraduate students engaged in an extraordinary learning experience as they were able to see some of the world's largest and most spectacular specimens of various gems and minerals. As a part of the learning experience, students conducted a "Treasure Hunt" around the hall to find world-class examples of many crystallographic and mineralogic features, such as "mimeoliths", crystal forms and the name-sake of Dr. Dutrow's professorship (pictured right). The class then discussed these finds and enjoyed the remaining portion of the day in exploration!
